PassaicRiver one of the great rivers of New Jersey! |
I remember a wintry blizzard in 1947. A glaze of ice covered the ground, the river, trees and bushes. With great anticipation I pulled on my boots and winter clothing, and armed with my camera, I decided to do a photo essay for a college course. I was dazzled by the frozen snow, grateful for this opportunity, and snapped picture after picture along the wrought iron fence that bordered the river; up the block and onto the arched footbridge. I stepped gingerly across the slick icy surface and into Westside Park I can't remember the name of the camera, but it took black and white photos, A and B in each frame. Each picture was about a 2" square. To my surprise they came out clear with good detail. To this day I have the pictures, each with a description that was part of my essay. Below are a few of those pictures that left an indelible imprint on my mind; the magnificence of that day that caused the schools to close, businesses to shut down and brought traffic to a halt. |
